Tear Down Your Strongholds Part 1

Divider

For the weapons of our warfare … have divine power to destroy strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:4

Do you have strongholds in your life that you haven’t been able to overcome? Strongholds are anything in your life that continue to bring you down. It could be a struggle with overeating, talking too much, an ungodly or unfruitful relationship, etc. As believers, we have the power to overcome the strongholds in our lives. However, many times we’ve tried to let go of or overcome these things only to find ourselves crawling back to them. How can we get free from spiritual, emotional, or physical strongholds?

Step #1) We need to admit we have a problem.
Staying in a state of denial only prolongs and strengthens the strongholds in our lives. When we come to the place of personal responsibility instead of blaming other people or life’s circumstances, we can begin the process of change.

Step #2) We fight the thoughts that keep us enslaved to bad habits.
Our thoughts strongly influence our actions. Instead of being passive about every thought that crosses our minds, we take a firm stance to reject the thoughts that keep us enslaved and subject everything we think to Christ.

Step #3) We embrace the freedom we have in Jesus Christ.
Jesus did more than save us from our sins. He brings true freedom to be everything we were made to be from the moment of our rebirth. We are free to attain our destiny and live out purposeful lives for God’s glory.

Step #4) We are honest about our strongholds with godly mentors.
Keeping our strongholds a secret is a big mistake. We need accountability partners who will pray and speak the truth in love to us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I confess that I’ve been struggling with this stronghold for too long. I want to be free. Help me to take the steps necessary to overcome in Your power. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In His Service,
