Sometimes We Limp

Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him.

Genesis 32:25

Our spiritual growth in God may have times we are simply limping our way to the next step. The spiritual, emotional, and physical battles leave many of us wondering if we got off track. Some of us wonder if God is still with us or if we somehow missed Him? Sometimes we will limp in our Christian walk; yet we are still moving forward in the faith.

Limping doesn’t always mean we have some moral failure. Yet, if we do, there is grace, mercy, and forgiveness for those who seek after God. Sometimes we limp because of the decisions of others that have disappointed us and caused pain. Sometimes we limp in the faith because life is unpredictable and unpleasant at times.

Whatever our reasons for limping, the most important message is—don’t give up! Satan, our enemy, will use his most effective weapon of discouragement to get us to stop pressing our way in the faith. We can resist his method by submitting our hearts to God for courage and strength.

We may feel that our limping isn’t making a difference. When we limp in the faith, we may struggle with praying, reading our Bibles, or getting to church. Yet, when we put our heads down to press forward in the faith, God does His greatest work in our lives. Our limping in the faith helps stretch us to know God like we’ve never known before.

Jacob limped after wrestling with God; yet, he didn’t let go of God until He blessed him. We also hold on to God through prayer and reminding Him of His promises. However, we get to the Lord—running, walking, or even limping—we just get there to Him and find our peace.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’m limping in the faith, but I’m not giving up on You. I pray You keep me moving forward and not backward in the faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.
