Sanctified Singleness

Did you grow up using fine chinaware with your daily mealtimes? For many of us, we only ate from those special dishes and silverware on holiday occasions. In addition, some of us grew up where the living room was set apart for guests only; whereas now, we have TVs and computers in the room for everyone to plop down on at any point in the day. Those special items that our parents cherished and treated gently were set aside for a special purpose, not the routine tasks of the day. Many times because they were expensive or handed down through the generations, they had tremendous value to the family.

In the church family, our single brothers and sisters are also set apart for the Lord’s special purposes. He sanctifies (or sets them apart) because they are free to hear and do His will without hesitation. Single men and women have the opportunity to live without restraints of other relationships when it comes to following the calling of God. This doesn’t mean that they don’t honor and respect their relationships; however, those relationships come second to the one they have with Jesus Christ.

Sanctified singleness is God’s gift to those who are willing to follow Him with their whole hearts. These are the saints who show the glory of God in everything they put their hands on at work, school, home, and their communities. They are driven by the Spirit of God to wake up each morning with a renewed vigor and hope for a spiritual walk with Jesus Christ.

This time of sanctified singleness is also a preparation period before they marry (if this is a desire in their hearts). When God brings the right match to them—they will be whole in spirit, mind, and body—bringing a treasure to their future husband and wife.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to value and embrace my sanctified singleness in You. Give me to keep my heart attuned to hear from Your Spirit every single day. Amen.
