For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood
When a family or friend betrays us, it’s easy to point the finger at them. However, there is an enemy in the background who uses the people we love most to undermine our faith. The devil hopes that we will stay focused on the person instead of the spirit that works behind the scenes.
Satan doesn’t want to be revealed because he does his best work in the darkness. When we show up, we bring the light of Jesus Christ that shines the truth in every situation. We must be aware of the devil’s devices especially when it comes to sowing discord among believers. It’s his agenda to break up the body of Christ because he knows that when we are united in the faith—his kingdom is about to be destroyed.
When we recognize our true enemy, we shift our focus from the offending person to the devil and put on our full armor to deal with him. We will need truth around our waist, righteousness as our breastplate, readiness in our feet, faith as our shield, salvation as our helmet, and the word of God as our sword. Prayers are especially effective in weakening our enemy.
This doesn’t mean that we don’t deal with the issues with those we love. It means that we learn to see what the devil means for evil and how God can turn it for good. We lovingly confront those who’ve done wrong and we never let up on the true enemy of our faith. The Lord will give us wisdom to deal with the problem. Our prayers for the family member or friend will weaken Satan’s influence over their lives.
Dear Lord, give me eyes to see when Satan is attempting to cause discord in my life. Help me to submit to you and resist him. Amen.
