Push Past Adversity

Divider

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.

Proverbs 24:10

No matter where we live, with whom we live, or what we do in this lifetime, we will have adversity. It will raise its head and demand that we pay it proper attention. Adversity will test our faith, challenge our relationships, and tempt us to bow down in fear of conflict. Yet God uses adversity to build up our spiritual muscles so that we can stand in strength on that day we are tested.

The opposite of fainting in the day of adversity is to take action—that is, actions of faith. We step out of our comfort zones and press our way towards the destiny that God has called us toward. Pushing past adversity removes the veil of self-reliance and reveals our deep need for God’s guidance, wisdom, and direction.

When we move past the adversity, we discover renewed strength and courage to tackle other issues in our lives. We recognize the power of God in our prayers, passions, and service to His people. Even better, we become those who empower others to push past adversity so that they can be free in Christ as well.

Adversity is a part of our Christ walk when we reflect on what Jesus said in Luke 12:51-52: “Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three.”

We resist adversity because we enjoy keeping ourselves from the messiness of it. However, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can pray and seek God’s wisdom in dealing with adversity so that He can work the greater good in our lives as well as in those who are around us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me push past adversity and towards Your will for my life. Give me the strength and courage to deal with it instead of always trying to ignore it. Amen.
