But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name.

John 14:26

Why would a perfect God send His Holy Spirit to dwell in such imperfect people? God pours out His Spirit into every person who accepts Christ as their Savior. What does the Bible reveal to us about the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit helps us (John 14:26). We need help to overcome Satan’s tactics to keep us from growing in the faith. The Holy Spirit gives us discernment to recognize truth from a lie.

The Holy Spirit empowers us (Acts 1:8). We are given power from God to be effective witnesses of Jesus Christ. This power enables us to also believe in God when we are discouraged.

The Holy Spirit can’t be fooled by lies (Acts 5:3). Some people are excellent liars; however, the gig is up when the Holy Spirit is involved.

The Holy Spirit witnesses everything (Acts 5:32). There’s nothing hidden from the Holy Spirit, and His witness is always true.

The Holy Spirit speaks (Acts 13:2). He speaks to those who seek God’s wisdom and direction for building the kingdom of God.

The Holy Spirit dwells within us (1 Corinthians 6:19). Our bodies have the Holy Spirit within us. We have the responsibility to take care of our temples and to refuse sin.

The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth (John 16:13). Sometimes our paths of life become murky and we can lose our way. Yet the Holy Spirit will always lead us as we turn towards Him.

The Holy Spirit can be quenched (1 Thessalonians 5:19). It’s possible for our lack of spiritual awareness to quench the effectiveness of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He’s not a bully to control us; rather, He’s gentle and peaceful.

The Holy Spirit can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30). Our choices to sin can grieve the Holy Spirit because of His great love for us.
