New Year’s Theme #6: Give More Cheerfully

Divider

For God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7

It’s amazing to be on the receiving end of giving. I’ve had many times where people have given their time, energy, and money to help when I needed it. Yet it’s even more amazing to have the opportunity and ability to give to those in need. There’s something that happens on the inside of us when we freely and cheerfully give to others.

Some of us are natural givers—we would give the shirt off our backs. Others of us have to be taught to be more giving, as it is harder to let go of our things. Yet giving is the mark of a believer who recognizes that everything good has been given to us by God. In return the Lord beckons us to be more giving to others.

Sometimes it can be hard to give when our own time, energy, or money is short. We can be tempted to keep for ourselves instead of giving in faith. Yet every time we give in the name of Christ, He gives us more in abundance in ways we never thought possible. How can we give more cheerfully this year?

We can give more cheerfully because our gifts result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:11-14)

We can give more cheerfully as an act of love and not in compulsion. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)

We can give more cheerfully because God promises to meet all of our needs. (Philippians 4:19)

We can give more cheerfully because of the abundance of blessings we’ve received. (1 Timothy 6:17-19)

We can give more cheerfully because we have eternal riches in Christ. (Romans 10:12)

We can give more cheerfully because we can’t out give God. (Luke 6:38)

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to be a better giver as You have given to me. I want to build heavenly riches through my obedience in faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In His Service,
