Make Your Mark

Among whom you shine as lights in the world

Philippians 2:15

Many believers struggle with the day-to-day requirements of work responsibilities; however, none of us are randomly placed where we work. God has strategically designed each one of us where He can most effectively use us for the building of the kingdom.

If our work doesn’t allow for many opportunities for promotions or raises, we can be tempted to become discontented. Or if we have discord on the job due to a difficult boss or coworkers, it can easily escalate to discouragement. However, we are created for God’s purpose, and our identity isn’t limited to the work we do. Since we work for the Lord and not for our boss, there can be peace knowing that our real boss is Jesus Christ. Our true boss wants us to work towards a greater peace, accomplishment, and success in our lives; therefore, we are encouraged to press forward each and every day doing our best.

God expects His people to leave a positive mark on their place of employment. We aren’t just existing from paycheck to paycheck—we are a part of His kingdom agenda, regardless of where we work.

Because we showed up for work, there needs to be a positive impact from our presence. Even in the worst work environments, we can pray for the salvation of our bosses and co-workers. We can pray for God’s peace and presence to infiltrate the building. We can pray for opportunities to share the Gospel or help someone through a difficult situation. Believers who follow God with all of their hearts can’t help but to leave the mark of Jesus Christ wherever they work.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to leave the mark of Jesus Christ at my job every day. I pray for wisdom and insight to do this with integrity and courage. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In His Service,
