Many times we can get a little overconfident about our days. Sometimes we wake up and start getting for work assuming that our day will be like any other. However, we aren’t promised today nor tomorrow. Our lives are like a wisp of vapor—one moment it’s here and the next it’s gone. Knowing that life is brief, how should we then begin each new day?
#1) Wake up to the possibility that this could be our last day on earth.
Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. (Psalm 144:4)
#2) Determine in our minds to make the most of our day.
O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! (Psalm 39:4)
#3) Make wise and careful decisions in our planning for the day.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. (Psalm 27:1)
#4) Treat everyone we meet today with the love of Christ.
As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. (Psalms103:15-16)
#5) Submit all of our plans to the Lord that His will be done.
What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that. (James 4:14-15)
Every day is another opportunity to live to the fullest in Christ Jesus. We were born for God’s purpose and plan regardless of where we live, what we do, or who we interact with on a daily basis. Let’s begin each day with renewed hope and vigor knowing our days are too short to waste.
Dear Lord, I’ve wasted many days and I want to change this pattern so that I can live a more purposeful and meaningful life in the Lord. Give me the strength and wisdom to accomplish this endeavor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
