Learn From Your Failures

It’s easy for Christian women to get stuck in the sticky trap of perfection. We push ourselves to be the best wives, mothers, co-workers, sisters, daughters, and friends to the point that we think we can’t fail. However, one misstep in our day can lead to the crashing realization of our incredible dependence on God.

Why does God allow us to fail, especially when He knows our hearts’ desires are to be pleasing to Him? Perhaps the Lord allows failures in our lives in order to increase our dependency upon Him. We can become independent, strong-willed, and determined to make things happen the way we think they should work out.

The problem is that God has a will for our lives that are wrapped up in a world of imperfect people and circumstances. Therefore, when we come to the end of all our planning and working, we realize that we are nothing without Him. In addition, we get an opportunity to see God at His best—untying the tangled mess of our lives to weave it into a beautiful tapestry of His presence and plan over our lives.

The best response to failure in our lives is the recognition that God is in control and not us. When we come to this complete surrender and turn our faces completely to Him, we then can relax in the peace and knowledge that He is in control, whether we succeed or fail.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I surrender my failures to You. I pray for Your strength and wisdom to live out this life with peace and joy in spite of what goes on around me every day. You are my hope in success and failure. Amen.
