And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
How many of us know where we are going after God puts a calling on our hearts? Most of us think we have an idea until we start moving in it. The Lord often leads us to unfamiliar places, and only our faith is prompting us to move forward. Many of us can get discouraged because we accepted the calling with the assumption of how we thought things were going to work out. More often than not, we find ourselves asking the question, “Is it worth the risk?”
It’s risky to follow after God with only our faith. He could have a completely different plan than what we thought. Abraham may have assumed that he and Sarah would have a son shortly after his calling. Yet he was 100 years old at Isaac’s birth. Moses could’ve assumed that the Israelites would be immediately released from slavery and a few months from the Promised Land. However, it was 40 years later. When the Messiah was promised through the prophet Isaiah, many Jews expected someone to deliver them from the Romans; however, Jesus came to save their souls.
The risk of faith in following after Jesus with all of our hearts is worth every moment. While we can’t predict the roads we may take, we can rely on God’s faithfulness to complete the work He started in us. It’s our responsibility to trust and not doubt His loving hand showing the way.
Not everyone is willing to take the risk of faith. Many turn down God’s calling because they are consumed with the pleasures of this world. It’s a mistake because everything with this world will end, but our dedication to the Lord has rewards that extend into eternity.
Dear Lord, I long to take this risk of faith. I need Your assurance that I’m going in the right direction. Thank You for Your Spirit, Who leads me into all truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
