In Love or In Lust

It’s disheartening to see how our culture has devalued true and lasting love into a warped sense of lust. Young people are encouraged to explore their inner yearnings with no restraint nor discipline. Men and women are leaving their marriages and families at an alarming rate for temporary sexual pleasure wrapped in immorality. The lines between being in love and being in lust are so blurred at times even believers are struggling with what it means to live pure and holy lives.

Yet, as followers of Jesus Christ—we have the power of God within us to help control our bodies in holiness and honor. It may be difficult at times, yet it’s completely possible to live holy in a world of perversion. For us, it’s a matter of choice over chance.

We make the choice on what we allow in our minds rather than take the chance of constant bombardment of sexual immorality on the Internet and/or TV.

We make the choice on who we allow in our lives as close confidantes and advisors rather than taking the chance of allowing anyone access to our personal thoughts and emotions.

We make the choice on where we allow ourselves to go for entertainment and/or recreation rather than take the chance of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We make the choice on how we engage in relationships with other people rather than take the chance of encircling our hearts with emotional ties that drag us down into sin.

We make the choice on when we move quickly away from those who desire the things of this world rather than pausing to see where it goes.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to control my body in holiness and honor. I pray for Your discernment and strength to glorify God in my words, thoughts, and actions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
