Some of us don’t realize how much we need God until we really need God. We are like the young child who says to their parents, “I do it myself!” Yet, we are in desperate need of God every single day. Without God’s help, we can’t wake ourselves up in the morning. Without God’s help, we can’t figure out the plans for our day. Without God’s help, we can’t build lasting relationships. God is our help from the beginning to the end of our lives.
And He wants to be our help. It’s part of His plan to bring us to the place of needing Him more than anyone else. When we live with God as our help, we experience His greater blessings. Instead of resisting Him, we learn to rest in His promises to help us in our time of need. Our courage and strength is most evident when we’ve gone to the Lord for His help. How does God help us?
He gives us help through the right timing of His word. (Jeremiah 1:12)
When we are desperate, God comforts and directs us with His word.
He gives us help through the gift of the Holy Spirit. (John 14:26)
When we feel lost in what to do, God gives us the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth.
He gives us help through the body of Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
When we are overwhelmed, God sends people into our lives to encourage us to keep fighting the good fight of faith.
He gives us help through intercessions and supplications of prayer. (1 Timothy 2:1)
When we need more than just good advice, God hears our prayers and answers according to His will.
He gives us help through His angels. (Hebrews 1:14)
When we are in spiritual warfare, God sends His ministering spirits to protect us along the way.
Dear Lord, You are everything I need in this life. Help me to rely more on You than I do on myself or others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
