This is the day that the LORD has made.
At the end of every work week, I’m usually greeted with “Happy Friday!” It caught me off guard because the weekends are usually a mess of activities. I may not have to go into the workplace, but I have writing, kids’ activities, grocery shopping, house cleaning, and ministry responsibilities. So for me, even though I may not have to go into the office, I’m still running hither and thither for my family.
I needed to make every day a happy day in order to stay focused and positive both at home and work. So it’s Happy Monday, Happy Tuesday, Happy Wednesday, etc. There’s a great tendency to work all week looking for that golden day of rest. While I still rest more on the weekend, even with my responsibilities, I recognize that not one day is promised to me. I have to make the most of every day because life isn’t guaranteed to continue until the weekend.
How many people prepare for work by laying out their clothes, packing a lunch, or checking their e-mails, but they didn’t wake up for work because their time was up? They may have had good intentions, but their numbers of days had reached their conclusion. If there is breath in our bodies and strength to get up and on with our day, rejoice!
Every day is a happy day in the Lord. He gives us strength when we feel weak, He comforts us when we feel alone, and He enables us through His power to be good workers at our jobs. We have a choice to either live every day as though it was our last or mindlessly work the week until we can say “Happy Friday!” That is, if we make it to Friday.
Dear Lord, help me to appreciate every day as a gift from You. I need your presence and power in my life to work well in my home, workplace, and community. Amen.
