I’ve made countless plans over my lifetime and most of them didn’t turn out the way I expected. I didn’t expect to be divorced or a single mom. I didn’t anticipated being the sole breadwinner for my children. I didn’t expect financial uncertainty nor health issues.
Yet, I also didn’t expect my children to push past their brokenness to grow in Christ. I didn’t expect the graciousness of family and friends to help me through days of difficulty. I didn’t expect to work a full time job that I love. I didn’t expect God to use my pain as a writer to minister to others.
God’s plan for His children is always much greater than we can ever expect. We enjoy the moments when our earthly plans come to pass. How much greater is God’s joy when His heavenly plans for us are realized! Yet, His plans for us aren’t always easy nor pain free. He plans for us are to become more like His Son, Jesus Christ who endured the cross for the joy set before Him. (Hebrews 12:2)
Even if we don’t know exactly what God plans for us, we can have peace because He knows the plans for us. He knows what we can or can’t endure. He knows exactly what trial will get us where we need to be spiritually, emotionally, or physically. He knows the strongholds or weaknesses in our lives that will be broken through endurance.
God’s plans for us are wrapped in His unconditional love and sealed by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Nothing happens to us by mistake—the Lord is intimately acquainted with every event in our lives whether good or bad. He is the one who makes everything beautiful and ugly in our lives work together for good. (Romans 8:28)
Dear Lord, sometimes it feels like my whole life is going the wrong way. Yet, I trust in Your plans for me. Help me to see my life as You see it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
