God Means what He Says

As the LORD had foretold.

2 Kings 24:13

Sometimes it seems like nothing will ever change—that the world will continue as it always had in the past. If we aren’t careful, we can be duped into believing that God is okay with the sinfulness that infiltrates our world and communities. Yet, there was a time when God’s people sinned against Him and He foretold of their disaster. Even though he sent multitudes of prophets to warn the people—it may have seemed like they were out of their minds.

They didn’t believe that disaster would overtake their entire nation separating families for generations, depleting the riches of their land, and spread rampant bloodshed of people from all walks of life. Yet, we are in the midst of global wealth and productivity of numerous nations. With all of our computer technology and ingenuity, a global disaster seems impossible.

If we continue to put our trust in anything or anyone but God, then we deceive ourselves and await the same surprise that hit the Israelites. In 2 Thessalonians 2:3, the Apostle Paul warned “Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction…”

We are living in the end times—Jesus is coming back soon. But what will He find in us—the church, His body? Will we be surprised along with those of this world? Have we spent more time building our worldly wealth and influence instead of building His kingdom?

This isn’t to say that we don’t take care of our responsibilities to take care of ourselves and our families. Yet, our attention must never be diverted from the truths of God’s word. Jesus is returning soon. God said it and He means it.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I repent for giving more time and attention to the things of this world instead of on You and Your word. Renew a right spirit in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
