Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
The goodness of God is over us all the time whether we sense it or not. He is a good God who uses everything in our lives for our good because we love Him and we are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) He is good to those who are His children as well as to those who are outside of the faith. (Matthew 5:45) When is God good?
God is good when life seems to be all good. God is good when life seems to be all wrong.
God is good when we have everything we need and want. God is good when we suffer lack and wonder how we are going to make it.
God is good when we feel and know the love of family and friends. God is good when we feel isolated and rejected by family and friends.
God is good when there’s leftover money for savings and investments. God is good when there’s not enough money to pay the bills and creditors.
God is good when our gifts and calling are being used for His glory. God is good when our gifts and calling seem inadequate for the need.
How can God be good when our life isn’t going the way we desired it? Because He knows our life journey even though we don’t. He has a beginning and ending to our lives in mind. It’s His will for us to trust in His goodness even when we don’t always understand the life journey. The twists and turns of our lives may catch us off guard—but it never comes to a surprise for our God. His goodness led Jesus to die on the cross so we wouldn’t have to suffer for all eternity. Even when we are besieged by doubt—let us never doubt the goodness of God.
Dear Lord, many times I feel like You’re not around. But I know in my heart, You are with me and You are a good God. Restore the right spirit within me to know and sense Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
