Sometimes it’s hard to figure out the right way to go when we are making decisions. Yet, the Lord provides us with direction from His word. He gives us peace so that we will keep making our way through this Christian journey. We can pray the following scriptures to the Lord as we are seeking His way:
#1) Pray for direction based on His counsel:
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.” (Psalm 32:8-9)
When we learn to wait on God instead of jumping on every opportunity—we learn to walk by faith and not by circumstances. We come willing and humble to listen to Him with openness to His plans over our plans.
#2) Pray for direction based on His promises:
“The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:11)
God promises to guide us, meet our needs and strengthen us when we feel weak. When we are leaning on God’s promises in faith, we experience fruitfulness in our lives. If we are faithful, God will bring the fruit of our destiny at just the right time.
#3) Pray for direction based on His Spirit:
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come.” (John 16:13)
We can hear the Holy Spirit best when we pull away for a time of prayer, fasting, and meditation of His word. The length of these actions depends on how critical our situation. When we completely surrender to God, we can say “I only want what God wants for me.”
Dear Lord, lead me to the right pathway so that I might honor Your name in my critical decisions. I look to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
