For God gave us a spirit not of fear
There are many compelling reasons for us to live in fear. Every continent is full of violent men and women seeking the destruction of those who don’t agree with them. There’s the fear of financial ruin because of hackers, medical issues, or corporate layoffs. Parents are afraid to release their children, and children are afraid to leave their homes. Yet in the midst of all these swirling and troubling issues, the Lord says, “Fear not!”
We aren’t to cower in fear for our lives because to live is Christ and to die is gain. We aren’t to live in fear of angry and corrupt people because greater is He who lives in us than he who lives in the world. We aren’t to embrace fear of losing our treasures because we seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to us. We aren’t to live in fear of sickness or disease because God uses every single thing in our lives for our good.
Living in fear isn’t spiritually healthy, as it goes against the teachings of the Bible. A fearful life is also mentally and emotionally unstable. Its effect on the human body can cause physical ailments such as headaches or high blood pressure. Knowing the destruction of fear, how can we overcome it?
Fear is overcome by faith in God’s word. When we know what God speaks to our situation, we find that a peaceful presence takes over our hearts. Fear is overcome by the love of God. When we rest in the unconditional love of God for us and our families, we can release them to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. Fear is overcome by truth. When we know the truth, we are set free from the bondage of living in fear.
Dear Lord, I resist the spirit of fear because You have given me power, love, and self-control. I pray for Your hand over my life every single day to walk in faith, truth, and love. Amen.
