Did God Say

Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?

Genesis 3:1

Adam and Eve were created perfect by God. Before one conversation with Satan, their life with each other was blissful and peaceful. In addition, they enjoyed a close relationship with their Creator, Who would visit with them regularly in the cool of the day. Yet one question would completely change the earth forever. Satan questioned what God made clear to Adam: Every tree was free for them to eat except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Satan is still tempting us with questions about God. Is God real? Are you really saved? Do you really need to wait for a husband? Do you really need to stay with your husband? Do you really need to give tithes and offerings? Do you really need to pray every day? Do you really need to know the Bible?

These questions from the devil are meant to cast doubt on God so that we can be deceived just as Eve was. Jesus demonstrated what we are to do when Satan questions the motives and intentions of God. Regardless of what Satan said or did, Jesus quoted the accurate Word of God. He didn’t entertain Satan with conversation like Eve did—He simply said the Word and that was it.

We need to answer Satan’s questions in the same manner. God is real because of Psalm 19:1. We are saved because of Ephesians 2:8. We wait for a husband because of Psalm 37:4. We remain married because of 1 Corinthians 7:39. We give our finances because of Malachi 3:10. We pray every day because of 1 Thessalonians 5:7. We know the Bible because of John 8:32.

We have the answers to Satan’s questions nestled in the word of God. Be like Jesus–speak the word and move on to do your Father’s business.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to become more discerning when the devil seeks to tempt me towards unbelief. I need Your Word to be a light to my path. In Jesus’ name, amen.
