Changing Seasons

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is wonder and beauty—along with the extreme unpleasantness in each season of nature. We may enjoy the colorful leaves of the fall, but detest having to constantly rake up leaves that pile up in our yards. We may experience the unique softness of a snowfall, but hate chipping ice from our windshields in ten below zero temperatures.

Just as nature has its seasons, we also have our seasons in the faith. Each season is unique and necessary for our Christian journey to be complete. What are the seasons of our journey?

Spring season – “Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!” (Psalm 57:5) The spring season of our Christian journey celebrates the joy of our salvation or a refreshing time of spiritual renewal with greater vision and expectations.

Summer season – “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah” (Psalm 67:1) The summer season of our Christian journey is a time where we sense the glory of God and His presence in our lives. We begin to see the fruit of our labor coming to light.

Fall season – “When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.” (Psalm 104:28) The fall season of our Christian journey is when we are reaping the blessings of what we’ve sown in righteousness.

Winter season – “My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”” (Psalm 42:3) The winter season of our Christian journey may be the most difficult because we are learning to trust in Lord through our difficulties.

Our seasons in the Christian journey don’t always fall perfectly into line. Each season has a beginning and ending. While we can’t control our seasons, we can resolve to trust God in each one.

Prayer

This season of my life is difficult, but I know that my season will change according to Your will. Help me to trust in You in each one. In Jesus’ name, amen.
