Bring Honor Back to Church

What sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness?

2 Peter 3:11

Many times we can become lax in our attitudes about church ministry. It is God’s will that we honor our church in humility with a willingness to serve and respect. Sometimes we forget that God has ordained our church to be a light to the lost. It’s an incredible responsibility and we need to understand how to return H-O-N-O-R to the church:

H – Hold up our pastors, church leaders, and their families in prayer. (1 Thessalonians 5:25)
Satan is always attacking pastors and church leaders throughout the world. It’s our responsibility to daily lift up our church leaders as they hear from God for guidance.

O – Own up to our sins. (James 5:16)
Church is a place for confession, prayer, and healing from our sins. We are in the world, but not of the world. Our ministry families march to the drum of a spiritual nature, not according to the world’s values.

N – Never do less than our best for the ministry than we would do at work. (1 Corinthians 3:13)
We need to uphold our ministries with a greater respect than our jobs. The Lord won’t excuse our carelessness of tardiness, disrespect, and disregard for the church leaders or property.

O – Operate in our spiritual gifts for the benefit of the church. (1 Corinthians 14:12)
Our spiritual gifts build up the church for God’s purpose and not necessarily for our own personal edification. Each member is to serve faithfully in their spiritual capacity given by God.

R – Respect church order and expectations with humility and grace. (1 Corinthians 14:40)
Every ministry needs order for balance, rather than chaos and confusion. God gives clarity in His word on the roles and responsibilities of church leaders and lay people.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray You would use me to bring honor to my ministry with a pure heart and desire to see your kingdom grow. I seek wisdom and understanding to bring order and peace. Amen.
