Bouts of Doubt

And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.

Matthew 28:17

During Jesus’ earthly ministry, He miraculously healed many people of their diseases, brought some back to life, and fed thousands of people. Yet, even after His resurrection, many doubted. It’s amazing that people who actually saw His crucifixion would still doubt Him. When Thomas finally was able to see Jesus resurrected, the Lord said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

We haven’t physically seen Jesus, yet we believe in Him. We believe that He was born of a virgin, ministered to the people, was crucified, died, and rose again. We believe that because of His sacrifice, we are free from the bondage of sin and we will spend eternity with Him. It’s because of the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit who encourages us to believe and trust in the Lord.

Yet, many times we could struggle with bouts of doubt. Not that we don’t believe in God, but sometimes we doubt that He hears our prayers or that He will come through for us. There are times when we may feel doubt, but we don’t have to live in doubt. How do we overcome bouts with doubt?

#1) Remember that God hears every single one of our prayers and He answers in His timing.

#2) Repent of the times when we focused more on circumstances than on His faithfulness.

#3) Replenish our faith through consistent study of His word.

If we find ourselves struggling with doubts about God, it may be time for us to pull away from the busyness of our lives. When we spend valuable quiet and reflective time with God—our faith is reignited and we can move on from our bouts with doubt.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me move beyond my bout with doubt and learn to trust You more. In Jesus’ name, amen.
