Before the Enemy Attacks... - Daughters of the Creator

Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat.

Luke 22:31

Satan never attacks when I’m ready. It’s usually when I’m the weakest and most tired that I’m tempted to sin. Apathy and passivity in our daily spiritual walk is a set up for disappointment. The best defense against the great multitude of temptations is an active, strategic spiritual plan ahead of time. How do we get ahead of the battle when our enemies attack?

Before the enemy attacks, we resolve in our hearts that it’s “when” not “if”.
“And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time. (Luke 4:13)
Just like he did with Jesus—Satan will come back at us time and time again. It’s our duty to be ready at all times.

Before the enemy attacks, we prepare with prayer and discernment.
“So that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.
(2 Corinthians 2:11)
If we are staying in prayer day after day, we will discern the strategy of Satan because he is the father of all lies. His strategies aren’t new to believers—it’s to cause us to doubt God’s goodness and divide the believers.

Before the enemy attacks, we deal with our weaknesses instead of ignoring them.
“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:24)
Denying our weaknesses in the flesh only strengthens them even more. We must confess our sins and deal with those areas of our lives that cause us to stumble.

Before the enemy attacks, we renew our commitment to God.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
Our first and foremost focus must be on God more than the devil. When we submit to God—we lay down all of our self-empowerment and seek His power from above.

Before the enemy attacks, we strengthen our faith by knowing the word of God.
“And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’” (Luke 4:4)
All of our spiritual weapons are offensive, except for one—the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. If we know His word before the attacks, we are better prepared to walk away in victory.

Before the enemy attacks, we see our victory in Jesus Christ.
“He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” (Colossians 2:15)
We may not win every satanic skirmish; yet, we will win the war in Jesus Christ. We are more the conquerors in His name and the victory is ours!
