Be her Hero not her Heartache

Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves.

Song of Solomon 3:4

I shared recently for my son to be the hero and not the heartache of the woman who loves him. While I’m not encouraging him to be perfect—I am encouraging him to carry himself as a man worthy of honor and respect.

In this culture today—there’s less concern about honor, dignity, and respect than the bling-bling of flashy cars, scantily clad women, and hard cash. Yet, a young man who holds a door open for a woman, speaks respectfully to older women, honors his elders, and loves God—is worthy of honor and respect. These tried and true acts of a young man give hope for our future.

It’s not easy to become a man of honor—a hero of the faith in God. It’s much easier to lower the standard and fit into the godless culture around us. It’s easier to give in than to stand up for righteousness and live a holy life. How can a man be the hero and not the heartache of the woman who loves him?

Be respectful in how you speak and treat the women in your life.
“Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.” (1 Timothy 5:1-2)

Be careful to uphold the standard of holiness and purity in your relationship.
“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” (2 Timothy 2:22)

Be honest about your intentions to marry or not.
“So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better.” (1 Corinthians 7:38)

Be unique in your likeness to Christ and following His ways.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

Be wise in the planning of your future and God’s calling on your life.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (James 1:5)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray for the young men of today to find You in the midst of the culture of deceitfulness. May they be the heroes and not the heartache of their future wives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
