Finally be strong in the Lord
Have you ever had someone give you a weak handshake? I never really know how to interpret it. Is the handshake weak because they are uncertain of me? Is it weak because they are untrustworthy? Is it weak because they are scared that they will squeeze too hard? Whatever the reason, it leaves a queasy feeling in my gut because it demonstrates a weakness somewhere.
As women of God, we are called to be strong and courageous in the Lord. We aren’t trusting in our own strength but in the strength provided by God. He gives us the strength to stay in a difficult marriage, to deal with difficult children, to work with difficult people, and to solve difficult problems that come our way.
When we trust in God’s strength, He gives us the grace and wisdom to defeat the devil with all of his deceitful ways, especially in our thought life. When we become strong in what we allow our minds to focus on, we can limit the influence that Satan has over us. This gives us spiritual clarity to deal with our situations as we are leaning on God for wisdom.
Just as our physical bodies become stronger as we lift weights, our spiritual bodies become stronger in the faith to believe in God for greater things. The simple and consistent practices of spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers give us the strength to help others grow in their faith.
A strong woman of God can lead others to strength as she continues to grow in her faith. Her life is marked with grace as she continually overcomes temptation to give in to the devil. Resist the urge to live a weak handshake life and give the strong grip of faith every day with living a life of faith in God.
Dear Lord, help me to live as a strong woman of faith as I put my trust in You every day. I choose to resist living a passive, weak spiritual life and instead want to strive towards being spiritually strong. In Jesus’ name, amen.
