A Strong Woman

A gracious woman gets honor.

Proverbs 11:16

What does it mean to be a strong woman of faith? She is determined to please God and live according to His word. A strong woman of faith may be ridiculed for her desire to please God. When Jesus walked the earth, He held women in high esteem, respect, and compassion. What does it take to be a S-T-R-O-N-G woman of faith?

S – Stands in faith in God and not fear (1 Peter 3:6).
Sarah followed Abraham even though he didn’t know where he was going. She followed in faith and not fear. Her example of faith serves as a model for all women who are under authority.

T – Trains others in the ways of Christ (Acts 18:26).
Priscilla heard Apollos’ passion for God but realized he needed instruction. Together with her husband, Aquila, they helped him become a strong preacher and teacher of Christ.

R – Remembers to choose Christ first (Luke 10:42).
While her sister, Martha, was worried about the house and getting things together for company, Mary was taking in Jesus’ teaching. Her heart was more in tune with his teaching than pleasing other people.

O – Opens her home and life to others in the name of Christ (Acts 15:16).
When Lydia’s eyes and heart were open to the Lord, she immediately took action. She invited Paul and his fellow missionaries to stay at her home when they were in town.

N – No longer tied to her past without God (Ruth 1:16).
Ruth may have been able to find another husband in her hometown. However, this was after she learned of God through Naomi and turned completely away from the pagan beliefs.

G – Goes forward in faith even though she doesn’t have all the answers (Luke 1:38).
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was approached by an angel with the good news that the Messiah would be born through her. Even though she couldn’t understand all the logistics of this miracle, she accepted God’s calling on her life.
