A group of birds were busily feeding in the backyard when the house dog came out. All the birds except one baby bird hurried up to the top of the fence. The baby bird wasn’t injured, just paralyzed with fear. When all the other birds quickly fluttered away, one mother bird continued chirping as she moved along the fence. She couldn’t swoop down and get the baby bird up, but she kept up a racket until somehow the baby bird found the nerve to fly to the top of the fence.
This mother bird modeled what every Christian mother should be to her children—a staunch prayer warrior who constantly cries out to her heavenly Father on behalf of her children. Despite the circumstances and bad decisions of her children, she refuses to give up interceding with prayers and fasting. This is possible due to her unwavering trust in God due to constant prayer and Bible study. She remembers God’s faithfulness to her in the past and continues to “chirp” away until something is done.
Christian mothers don’t opt out of praying for their children. They press into their Creator to move on their behalf, especially when they are unable to rescue their children. Early in their childhood years is the best time to establish regular prayer times with and for the children. However, any mother can begin at any time to pray for her children. There’s great joy when a child turns from doing wrong to righteous living because of the prayers of their mother.
As Christian mothers, we press into God for our children in spite of how we feel because we know He loves them more than we ever could.
