After the Israelites were free from the Egyptian oppression and given the gift of the Promised Land, they continued to go after other gods. Many times they wouldn’t utterly forsake the God of their fathers—rather they would attempt to mix their spiritual heritage with the pagan practices of the other nations. This was a provocation and insult to the one and only God who saved them time after time.
As it was with the Israelites, so it is today. There is a cultural push to mix the sound teachings of the Bible with the ever changing tides of religious beliefs. Yet, this is a deadly mixture to the body of Christ. If we succumb to this type of teaching, it will surely weaken the church and our children’s generation will be lost.
God is not a passive old grandfather rocking in heaven and poo-pooing our transgressions. He will repay unrighteousness and bring justice to those who’ve disregarded their God-given consciences. We can’t escape being judged if we remain silently compliant to false teachings of expanding grace to the point of “God understands if I need to sin…”
He doesn’t give us a get-out-of-jail-card for our sin. We can’t serve Him and the desires of our flesh. We are called to be pure, holy, and righteous in the power of the Holy Spirit. There’s no fencing splitting with Jesus—either we are all the way in or all the way out. He loves us too much to let us continue in this ignorance of spiritual truths.
Let us repent today of our passivity in accepting others people’s opinions and beliefs over the clear truths of Scripture. We are called to be a peculiar people who aren’t tainted with excuses of unrighteous living.
Dear Lord, I repent of watering down my faith instead of standing up for truth. I pray for the wisdom and courage to remain solidly and completely committed to Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.
