When you’re Raising K.I.D.S.

There are countless children who’ve traveled down the road of rebellion who had loving and attentive parents. At the same time, there are successful children who had inattentive and unloving parents. As moms and dads—we can’t control the outcome and decisions of our children. Yet, through the power of Christ we have the ability to influence them towards choosing right choices. What to do when we’re raising K.I.D.S.?

K – Know God for yourself.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7) We have intimacy with God through prayer and meditation of His word. As we do this, we can discern His voice above all the other voices from within and outside of ourselves.

I – Invest in their spiritual growth.
“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” (Deuteronomy 6:7) Investing in them spiritually is more than just taking them to church—it’s making God real to them through prayer and reading God’s word together. When we do this, we learn to capitalize on opportunities to connect their everyday life joys and sorrows to God.

D – Do the right thing.
“And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers.” (Deuteronomy 6:18) It’s not “do as I say not as I do” but “be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

S – Speak truth to them.
“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” (Ephesians 4:18) When our children are growing up, we have the opportunity to speak the word of God into their lives on a regular basis so that the seeds are buried deep into their hearts.

Dear Lord, You are my light and direction to raise these children in the Lord. I seek Your wisdom and strength to finish this parenting journey well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
