There was a time in my life where I had to make several major life decisions in a short period of time. I had many godly friends offering diverse opinions and advice which caused some inward angst, in addition to my own inner fears and doubts about what to do. I didn’t just want to do the right thing, I wanted to do the best thing because my decisions affected more than just me.
After times of prayer, fasting, and meditation, I came to the conclusion that I needed to follow the way of peace. This peace didn’t mean that it was a necessarily easy path; rather it was a peace that came from God in spite of the torrential battles that loomed around me. When I don’t know which way to go, I would pray:
Dear Lord, I need You to lead me into truth—not what is necessarily comfortable nor predictable.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:13)
Dear Lord, I trust in You with all my heart, lead me in the way that fits Your purpose for my life.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Dear Lord, I need wisdom that You promised to give so that I would make the best decision possible.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5)
Dear Lord, I need Your instruction in this situation.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8)
Dear Lord, You know the way I should go more than I do. I trust in Your word to lead and guide me in the right direction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
