Dig Deeper

Gardening isn’t for everyone; however, most people know that it is necessary to dig a hole in order to plant a seed. If you plant the seed too close to the surface, it could be washed away or dug up by an animal. It’s important to dig deep enough the right measure for each individual plant in order for it to grow the longest and strongest.

It’s no different with our spiritual walk and disciplines of the faith. The fruit of our spiritual life will be reflected in how deep we are willing to dig. Digging close to the surface spiritually is evident when our trials and temptations hit. Because of our lackluster effort in prayer and Bible study, we may find ourselves struggling to know what to do. When we begin to visit church irregularly, we may find ourselves without a strong support of other believers to share our burdens.

Just like digging a garden in the right way takes time, so does digging deeper into your relationship with God. Your practice of spiritual disciplines will cause you to spend more time in prayer, Bible study, meditation, fellowship, and so on. You will sometimes need to rearrange your schedule or give up cable TV or anything that threatens your time with becoming a more mature believer.

There’s nothing like the beauty of a healthy, growing garden at the end of the summer. It wasn’t by happenstance; instead, someone had to take the time, energy, and effort to help it grow in that manner. When a Christian woman begins to grow in her faith because of digging deeper into the Lord, there’s a unique and beautiful countenance about her presence, words, and actions.

God’s glory is most manifest in those women believers who’ve taken the time to dig deeper into developing their spiritual disciplines. The fruit of their lives reveals the maturity in how they are walking in the faith, one spiritual discipline at a time.
