Practice Restoration

As a mother of five children, it would hurt my heart to see one of my children refuse to forgive and accept their sibling. Each of them was lovingly cherished their entire childhood without the sting of favoritism. How much more difficult is it for God to see His children hurt each other? As brothers and sisters of Christ, we aren’t perfect. Instead we are being perfected and matured in the faith to become more like Jesus. In the meantime, we have to learn to love and encourage one another in the faith, even when one of us sins.

We may forget that we are to restore a fellow believer back to the flock when they are repentant of their sins. We are tempted to think higher of ourselves than we should. Many times we forget that we ourselves are forgiven from our sins and God draws us back. Because of our forgetfulness, we don’t always extend the hand of fellowship to our brothers and sisters who’ve fallen into sin and repented.

In obedience we can restore in a spirit of gentleness, not harshness nor a judgmental attitude. Our Christian fellowship is strengthened when we accept each other in love. There are times when each of us will fail or fall short of God’s glory. However, we can get up faster when someone lovingly extends a helping hand. God loves it when His children love each other.

There will be those who are unrepentant and defiant in their sins. Even if they are no longer actively a part of ministry, we can still pray fervently for their souls and demonstrate the love of Christ. Harshness and condemnation come from the devil and our own sinful lusts. We are warned by God to be careful so that we don’t think we are better than what we really are. (Galatians 6:1-5).

Prayer

Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve been harsh with my siblings in Christ who’ve fallen. Help me to extend the same grace to them that was given to me by Jesus. Amen.
