New Year’s Theme #7: Live More Purposefully

Divider

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me.

Psalm 138:8

The older I get, the more I’m driven to fulfill God’s purposes for my life. When my life changed drastically over the last few years, I realized I had to embrace God’s purposes more than my own personal comfort. The world would have us believe in random acts of fate; however, it’s God’s purposes and plan that lead our life journey. There isn’t one impactful incident in our lives that has caught God off guard. In fact, He makes everything in our lives work for the good of His plan.

It can be hard to embrace that God is in control when things are not going well for us. Yet even in our most desperate moments, He drives us to live more purposefully. We don’t have time to waste on frivolous activities that deplete our calling, energy, or creativity. There is a purpose for our lives that is bigger than us. We don’t want to miss our day of opportunity chasing after temporary quick fixes of worldly pleasures.

To live more purposefully means we are looking to God for direction every day. We aren’t taking for granted that we can still hear and follow His voice. Our plans for the day are encircled around His vision for our lives. This means that at times He will interrupt our day, our plans, and our lives for His perfect will. What do we need to do to live more purposely?

To live more purposefully, we remember that our lives are not our own. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

To live more purposefully, we stay connected and engaged with the Holy Spirit. (John 14:17)

To live more purposefully, we take the time to reflect on our motives. (2 Corinthians 13:5)

To live more purposefully, we value the personal interaction with people. (Titus 3:1-8)

To live more purposefully, we understand that our time on earth is short. (James 4:14-15)

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me in this New Year to love more deeply, pray more intensely, study more diligently, forgive more freely, serve more willingly, give more cheerfully, and live more purposely. In doing so, I know that my calling will be fulfilled. In Jesus’ name, amen.
